Through examining the beliefs derived from the sacred texts of Christianity and Islam, it has become evident that there is a significant relationship between beliefs and the notions of inner and world peace within a religious tradition. Inner peace refers to the ways in which the sacred texts and principal teachings structure an individual’s quest to achieve personal peace and satisfaction. World peace is also achieved through the sacred texts and teachings however, it is the ways in which these teachings contribute to peace on both national and international scales (King, 2009). Through these sacred texts, principal beliefs and organisations within Christianity and Islam, a greater understanding of the notions of peace within a religious†¦show more content†¦Christianity is known as a forgiving religion, as the principal belief of salvation is significant. This is evident as Christians are presented with the death of Jesus, the ultimate symbol of salvation, and as th ey are told to seek reconciliation over retaliation, (Smith, 2012); â€Å"Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you† (2 Corinthians 13:11). Christians believe that salvation was achieved as a result of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; therefore they have gained access to eternal life with God where they will live in perfect peace. This encompasses Christian’s overall faith, hope and trust in God, providing them with inner peace. An extract from John 16:33 emphasises that the peace of God is beyond the peace of the world; â€Å"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.† Christians believe that through teachings such as the eight Beatitudes and the Commandment of Love, Jesus sought to redefine the implications of daily life by challenging the standards of society; â€Å"Bless ed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God† (King, 2009).
